From the sixth division to pre-season with a professional first team

4 August 2026 · 3 min read · By LHCoaching

Sebastian Richardson spent years inside the pay-to-play system — first in the USA, then in Spain at Malaga City. He trained, he paid, and he never got a real trial at a club that competes for points. He came to us in the summer of 2025. What happened in the twelve months after that is the most remarkable development we have seen.

Two placements, one plan. We first brought Sebastian into the German league system at a sixth-division club — and one season later to SV Waldhof Mannheim. Both steps were arranged by us; the performances in between were his.

We did not start him at the top

This is the part that surprises most families. We did not send Sebastian to a professional club. We placed him at a club in the sixth division — and on top of that, at a club where he could also play in the Futsal Bundesliga.

That sounds like a step backwards after Spain. It was the opposite. For the first time he was inside the official German league system, playing for points every weekend, in two competitions at once. Not friendlies. Not showcases. Real football with real consequences.

You cannot be scouted in a league that does not count. You can be scouted in the sixth division.

One season that changed the picture

Sebastian played an outstanding season. Not a good few weeks — a full season, week after week, with the responsibility that comes from actually being needed by a team.

That season is what earned him the next step. We arranged a trial at SV Waldhof Mannheim, a traditional professional club. It worked out straight away: he was taken into the U21.

Then the first team called

What came next was not planned by anyone. The first team was looking for a left-back — Sebastian's position. So he was taken along for the entire pre-season and trained with the professional squad.

And he did not just train. He played:

Twelve months earlier he had been paying an academy for training sessions that led nowhere. Now he was on the pitch against some of the best teams in the country.

Where it goes from here

We will not pretend to know the ending. Whether Sebastian establishes himself in the U21 or pushes into the first team is open, and it depends on things nobody controls — form, competition, injuries, decisions made by people above him.

To be precise about where he stands today: Sebastian is part of the U21 squad. He does not have a professional contract, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What he does have is a full pre-season with the first team behind him and minutes against opponents most players at his former level never face.

He went from the sixth division into a professional environment in one season, and he is currently having the time of his life.

And to be clear about the credit

It would be easy for us to present this as our achievement. It is not. We opened doors and arranged the steps — the rest was Sebastian.

He trusted the plan when the first step looked like a downgrade. He understood that nothing happens overnight. Then he did the work, season long, with the talent and the will to back it up. That combination is what created this, not our programme.

We are incredibly proud of him and we will keep following his story — however it ends.
